How to Prepare for MbPA AEE & EE Civil 2026

  1. 1The technical test is 120 of the 200 marks — 60% of the paper — and its questions are worth 2 marks each, so it decides the merit list. But 35% is needed in every test separately, so do not leave Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning or English to chance.
  2. 2Wrong answers cost a quarter of the question's marks: 0.5 for a technical question and 0.25 for the others. Attempt what you can reason out and skip pure guesses.
  3. 3Time is short: 60 technical questions in 50 minutes is 50 seconds each, and English has 25 questions in 20 minutes. Practise the four tests back to back on their own clocks.
  4. 4MbPA has not published a syllabus, so prepare the standard B.E. civil subjects evenly — structures (RCC, steel, structural analysis), geotechnical, estimating and contracts, construction management, hydraulics — and add port and marine structures, because the notice names port and marine experience as desirable.
  5. 5For Executive Engineer, check the five-year executive-cadre experience rule before applying — it is essential, not desirable, and the certificate is examined at document verification.
  6. 6The interview is 30 marks and counts towards the final rank. Expect questions from your own experience: a quay, breakwater, building or pavement you worked on, how you estimated it and how the contract was run.
