Selection process
- Stage 1: a scrutiny committee shortlists applications, using desirable qualifications and relevant experience if there are many applicants.
- Stage 2: a qualifying Computer Skill Test and/or Trade Test; its marks are not carried forward.
- Stage 3: a written test of 100 marks — Part A General 50 and Part B Specialisation 50. The indicative syllabus for each post is on the institute website. Final selection is on written-test merit.
- The selection panel stays valid for one year.

Fee and other rules
- Fee ₹500 (₹450 application + ₹50 registration) through the payment gateway; SC/ST/PwBD/Women/Ex-servicemen/Transgender candidates pay only ₹50. A separate application and fee are needed for each post.
- Experience on contract, outsourced or similar basis is not counted where experience in a pay level is required.
- Employees of government bodies must send the application through proper channel or produce an NOC and vigilance certificate at the test.
- The envelope is superscribed 'APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF …' and sent to the Dean (Administration), IISER Kolkata, Mohanpur, Nadia 741246.
